Cameras should protect your place without filming more of your neighbours than they need to. We aim each one at your doors, driveway, yard or shopfront, and talk you through the Privacy Commissioner's guidance on telling people they are being recorded. For businesses we can add signage and set recording to suit your hours.
Covering driveways and steep approaches in Karori, Khandallah and Tawa
Most homes in the western and northern suburbs are on hills, and that changes where a camera earns its keep. In Karori and Ngaio a house can sit well above or below the road, reached by a long drive or a flight of steps, so the most useful camera is often the one watching that approach rather than the front door. We stand at the street and at the door with you to decide which views matter. On a steep Karori driveway, a low camera at the garage tends to see car roofs rather than faces, so we mount it higher or add one at the door.
Khandallah and Ngaio have plenty of mature trees and bush edges, which look lovely and play havoc with motion detection. Swaying branches, birds and cats can fill a phone with alerts, so we tune detection zones and sensitivity carefully and pick cameras with good infrared range for dark, leafy sections.
Further north the housing changes. Johnsonville has state houses from 1938 onward around a busy shopping hub, Churton Park is one of the city's youngest suburbs with homes built from the 1970s on cut and fill, and Tawa mixes valley-floor sections with infill houses behind older homes. Infill and newer homes can share a narrow driveway, so we aim cameras at your own parking and entry and keep neighbouring sections out of frame. Where a house sits above a subfloor, cable can usually run underneath out of sight.
Local tip: If your Karori or Ngaio home is well above the road, a camera at the top of the steps often sees more than one at the letterbox.
CCTV Installation in Western and Northern Suburbs: Local Conditions
Western and northern suburbs homes often sit on sloping sections with driveways, steps and garages below the house. We place cameras to cover the approach from the street, and plan cable routes through the subfloor where the house sits above the ground.
Homes in Western and Northern Suburbs
Karori and Khandallah mix early 20th century villas and bungalows with mid-century homes and, since the 1980s, infill houses on subdivided sections. Ngaio has everything from 1860s colonial buildings to the 1928 Tarikaka railway cottages and 1960s weatherboard homes. Johnsonville and Tawa have large numbers of state houses from the late 1930s to the early 1960s, some on their second or third switchboard and some still on their first. Churton Park, built from the 1970s, is the youngest of the group and is generally wired in plastic-sheathed cable, though boards from the 1970s and 1980s often lack RCD protection on some circuits. Infill homes in Tawa and Karori usually have modern boards, which makes adding circuits straightforward when there is spare capacity.

CCTV Installation Western and Northern Suburbs FAQs
My Khandallah section is full of trees. Will the cameras keep alerting me?
Not if they are set up properly. We draw detection zones around paths and doors, lower sensitivity where branches move, and use person detection where the camera supports it.
Can I watch my cameras on my phone?
Yes. We set up the recorder and app so you can see live and recorded footage from anywhere with a data connection.
Can cameras go on a body corporate building in Western and Northern Suburbs?
Only with the body corporate's approval if they are on common property. A doorbell camera or indoor camera at your own unit is often simpler.
