Where the recorder lives matters as much as the cameras. We find a dry, ventilated spot for it, often near your router, and set up remote viewing on your phone so you can check footage when you are away from the Hutt Valley. If a new power point is needed for the recorder or the router, that is wiring work we do and certify.
Hutt Valley camera systems for flat sections, bush valleys and industrial yards
The Hutt Valley gives us some of the easiest and some of the hardest camera jobs in the region. On the flat valley floor in Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt, many homes are post-war state and private houses on regular sections, where a driveway camera, a front door camera and one covering the back yard make a sensible starting system. Cable can usually travel through the ceiling space or subfloor without much fuss. Naenae's 1940s state houses, many put up from prefabricated sections, have a simple footprint that three or four cameras cover well.
Stokes Valley and Eastbourne are another story. Stokes Valley is ringed by forested hills, and Eastbourne's homes sit on a narrow strip between the harbour and the bush, so night vision has to cope with real darkness, and cameras near Eastbourne's waterfront need housings and fixings suited to salt air. Steep sections in both places mean ladder work and access are planned on the first visit.
Petone and Seaview add commercial and industrial jobs. Yards around Cornish Street and the Seaview industrial area need cameras that can see gates, loading bays and stock at night, with a recorder large enough to keep footage for as long as your insurer or your own policies require. For Petone's Jackson Street shops, a smaller system covering the door and counter usually does the job.
Local tip: For a Seaview or Petone yard, ask your insurer how many days of footage they expect before we size the recorder.
CCTV Installation in the Hutt Valley: Local Conditions
Across the Hutt Valley we install cameras on family homes in Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt, on bush-edged sections in Stokes Valley and Eastbourne, and on commercial and industrial premises in Petone and Seaview. Larger yards often need cameras with good night vision.
Homes in the Hutt Valley
State houses from the 1940s and 1950s make up a large share of Lower Hutt, Naenae and parts of Petone, and many Naenae homes were put up in a day or two from prefabricated sections. Houses of that age may still have rubber-insulated wiring in places, which should be replaced rather than extended, and their boards often have little spare space. Upper Hutt's suburbs from the 1950s to the 1980s and Stokes Valley's Holborn subdivision from the late 1960s are generally wired in plastic-sheathed cable, but many still have their original board. Wainuiomata has seen new townhouses go up since about 2020, and these come with modern boards. Petone also has 1960s Star Flats apartment blocks and an industrial area around Cornish Street, where we look after workshop and commercial circuits.
How We Handle CCTV Installation in the Hutt Valley
On install day we run cable through the roof space or subfloor where possible, mount the cameras and seal every entry through the cladding.

CCTV Installation Hutt Valley FAQs
Can cameras see in the dark on my bush-edged Stokes Valley section?
Yes. We use cameras with strong infrared night vision, or add a sensor light so the camera can record in colour, and aim them so leaves close to the lens do not reflect the infrared back.
Are wired or wifi cameras better?
Wired cameras are usually more reliable because power and data run down one cable and there is no battery or signal to worry about. Wifi cameras suit places where cabling is impractical, as long as the signal is strong.
Do I need to tell people they are being recorded?
The Privacy Commissioner recommends signage so people know cameras are in use, and that cameras do not film more of other people's property than necessary. We help you aim cameras to suit.
